“A forest has no owners, by definition it cannot have any; we have always considered ourselves its guardians and as such we welcome empowering collaborations that can improve the forest health and help spread tea culture around the world.”
Eastern Leaves | the ‘Forest Keepers’
Eastern Leaves, founded by soulful duo Vivian Zhang and Lorenzo who own a forest tea plantation in Nannuo and Pasha Mountains, which flourishes naturally in the undergrowth of a centuries-old Yunnan high mountain forest. Eastern Leaves limits interference with the growth of their trees, trying to preserve the original thriving environment that surrounds them, hence the reason they are known as the 'Forest Keepers' rather than farmers of the tea plantations.

Eastern Leaves Tea | 2019 Yueguangbai White Tea, Ancient Tree stone-pressed cake.
The first time this tea was tasted a few years after being produced, the intensity that hit the palate went straight to the hearts of the Eastern Leaves Family: its flavour is redolent of forest flowers and autumn fruits, and the overwhelming sweetness gently mingles with an hint of aromatic wood and wild flowers. The great flower bouquet that blooms in the palate by sipping its golden-colored tea liquor inspired the two characters written at the top of the wrapping paper: 花魂 huā hún, meaning "flower soul".
Each cake is stone-pressed, and it is intended to be consumed from 6-12 months after the production or to be aged for all the time you wish.
These ancient tea tree leaves have been withered and dried with a natural and very delicate procedure that causes them to become half black and half white, the distinctive feature of Yueguangbai, or "white moonlight" in English.

Eastern Leaves Tea | 2021 Autumn Harvest Ancient Trees Shengpu, Stone-pressed cake. The autumn harvest starts in September, after their spring tea has reached your cups, and surprised your palate. The delicate tea leaves are harvested by hand, and after sun-drying they get pretty hues of dark green, that will become redder and redder as time passes by.
In the first brews, the initial flowery aroma is soon reached up by a persistent mellowness of unripe fruits, fresh and delicate. A great complexity later bursts in the aftertaste, giving off a hint of acacia honey, that will bloom with the ageing process. The thick and smooth liquor continues releasing the beauty of the autumn colors brew after brew, going from a light golden color to warm amber hues, as the long brownish leaves unfurl in the teapot.
